Admission Requirements
Freshmen | Transfer Students | Re-entry | International StudentsFreshmen admission
The primary academic requirement for regular freshmen admission is either a cumulative high school GPA of 3.1 or higher, or a corresponding index number. The index combines the GPA and the SAT or ACT test score. All freshmen must have taken the SAT or the ACT before enrolling. The FPU index is calculated in the same way as the California State University index. However, the FPU minimum of 3094 is considerably higher than the CSU minimum. In addition to the GPA/INDEX requirements, certain courses are also required:
- four years of college preparatory English with a grade of C or better
- three years of college preparatory mathematics with a grade of C or better
- two years of social studies with a grade of C or better
- one year of a laboratory science with a grade of C or better
- two years of the same foreign language with a grade of C or better
- one year of visual or performing arts with a grade of C or better
Applicants who do not meet all these academic standards may be considered by the admissions selection committee for an exception. The faculty allows a specific number of categorical exceptions each year. Early application for these openings is strongly recommended.
Transfer admission
Transfer students to Fresno Pacific University will receive advanced standing credit based on the accreditation of the institution previously attended and the official transcripts submitted by the student. Courses in which D grades have been earned will not be granted transfer credit. Fresno Pacific College will grant a maximum of 70 units of credit from a community or junior college.
The primary academic requirement for regular transfer admission is a cumulative GPA of 2.4 or higher in 24 or more units transferable to Fresno Pacific University. When fewer than 24 transferable units have been completed, admission will be granted based on the freshmen standards. Transfer applicants who do not meet all these academic standards may be considered by the Admissions Selection Committee for an exception. The faculty allows a specific number of categorical exceptions each year. Early application for these openings is strongly recommended.
Re-entry admission
Reentry students, those who have been out of high school or college for five or more years, can be admitted if they meet either of the above requirements. If these requirements are not met, the admissions selection committee will review the application and recommendations. If sufficient qualities of maturity, academic ability and motivation are present to convince the committee that the applicant has the potential to succeed at Fresno Pacific University, the committee can grant admission.
International admission
International students need good English skills in order to be successful in undergraduate studies. Although TOEFL and SAT scores are not required, the TOEFL score is strongly recommended. Students whose native language is not English, and who submit a TOEFL score of 500 with minimum section scores of 50 in each skill area, are eligible for the regular undergraduate curriculum upon admission.
International students meeting academic requirements but without TOEFL scores, or with a score of less than 500, will be required to improve English language proficiency in the Intensive English Language Program (IELP). Students with intermediate level English ability will be permitted to take one or two academic courses with the approval of the IELP director. Students may earn up to 16 units of credit in their IELP courses and apply them as electives to the BA degree. Visit our website.
