Alumni Board Job Description
Fresno Pacific Alumni Advisory Board
The Fresno Pacific Alumni Association exists to find the points where the life of the university intersects with the lives of its graduates, and to use those connections to build lifelong relationships between FPU and its alumni.
Purpose
The role of the Fresno Pacific Alumni Advisory Board is to strengthen the Fresno Pacific Alumni Association's efforts to build lifelong relationships between FPU and its alumni by:
- Assisting the alumni director by conducting, managing, and overseeing the affairs and business of the Fresno Pacific Alumni Association in a manner consistent with the course of action and policy observed by the university.
- Serving as representatives for the alumni in their communities and areas of influence.
- Developing ways to improve the benefits, programs and services for alumni.
- Cultivating relationships between alumni and current students.
Composition
The Fresno Pacific Alumni Advisory Board is designed to be a representative body of all Fresno Pacific alumni. To do this, the board consists of undergraduate, graduate and degree completion alumni representatives of the university from its four eras-Pacific Bible Institute, Pacific College, Fresno Pacific College and Fresno Pacific University.
Board members should be FPU alumni, having completed a minimum of 30 units at Fresno Pacific. They should be persons of responsibility, integrity and high standing in their community of residence, as well as involved and active in their faith in Christ.
In addition to alumni representation, there are six ex-officio members of the board: the alumni director and undergraduate, graduate, degree completion and student life representatives.
Term of Office
Each board member is elected to serve on the Fresno Pacific Alumni Advisory Board for a term of three calendar years. Members may serve three consecutive terms.
Meetings
The Fresno Pacific Alumni Advisory Board meets on the main campus three times each year. Board members also serve on working committees. Committees meet outside of regular board meetings at the discretion of the committee members. Board members are responsible for all tax-deductible travel expenses incurred to attend meetings.
Events
Board members are expected to attend all major alumni events (e.g. Homecoming, MCC Sale and the Distinguished Alumni Award reception) as well as any alumni event occurring within 50 miles of the alumnus' place of residence.
Elected Officers
The elected officers of the Fresno Pacific Alumni Advisory Board include a president and a vice-president:
- Elected officers must be board members.
- The term of office for elected officers is two years.
- The president and vice president meet regularly with the director of alumni relations and set the agenda for board meetings.
- The vice-president will replace the president in his or her absence.
Nomination Process
The Office of Alumni Relations will secure nominations in the fall of each year to replace members rotating off the board:
- Nominations are received from administrators, faculty and staff of the university, and Fresno Pacific Alumni Association members.
- Nominees will be screened by the Office of Alumni Relations and submitted to the Board Development Committee.
- The Board Development Committee shall then conduct interviews of those individuals selected, submitting their recommendations to the Fresno Pacific Alumni Advisory Board.
- Upon approval by the board, new members will be contacted by the Alumni Office to attend the first meeting of the next calendar year.
Resignation
Any board member may resign at any time by giving written notice to the Fresno Pacific Alumni Advisory Board president or the director of alumni relations. Any such resignation shall take effect at the date of receipt of such notice or such later time as may be specified therein. Unless otherwise specified therein, acceptance of such resignation shall not be necessary to make it effective.
Any board member who is absent from two consecutive meetings of the Fresno Pacific Alumni Advisory Board without prior notice to the Office of Alumni Relations or board president shall be deemed to have given notice of resignation from the board. Such resignation is immediately effective following the second consecutive missed meeting. The member will then receive a written notice of their removal from the Fresno Pacific Alumni Advisory Board.
