Coach Hirschkorn and crew honored by the GSAC

Fresno- Four Sunbirds were recently recognized by the Golden State Athletic Conference for their superb play through out the 2008 regular season. Head coach Oscar Hirschkorn was named coach of the year as he paced the Sunbirds to a record of 34-12 overall and 26-10 in the GSAC along with a second place finish. 

Senior pitcher Chris Schwinden led the pack as he was named pitcher of the year. Schwinden posted a 6-1 record with 94 strikeouts. He only walked 19 batters in his 87.1 innings of work.

Daniel Brodie, Josh Jackson and Justin Keeney were also picked to represent Fresno Pacific.

Brodie pitched 52.2 innings while posting a 4-3 record. The converted relief pitcher accumulated 58 strikeouts in his 21 appearances.

Jackson, who started most games behind the plate, batted .342 with seven home runs and 33 RBI's to make the all-conference list.

Keeney, who played in all 46 games, batted a scorching .394 to lead the Sunbirds at the plate. He tallied seven home runs, 37 RBI's and 109 total bases during the 2008 campaign.

The Sunbirds are preparing for the first round play in the NAIA Region II Playoffs. They are slated to play California Baptist on Tuesday, May 6th. First pitch is scheduled for 2:15 pm. All playoff games will be played at Azusa Pacific from May 6-9.
