Wednesday, April 9, 2008- Azusa, California Fresno- Five runs in the first inning set the tone early for the Sunbirds and they continued to light up the score board in route to a 15-7 win over the Cougars. Justin Keeney demolished the Cougars pitching staff with his two home runs and five RBI's. The win snaps the Cougars 25-game home conference winning streak. Starting pitcher, Aaron Lynn, took a shut out into the sixth inning and surrendered just two runs to take the win. His record is now 3-1. After exploding for five runs in the first inning the Sunbirds continued with a four run second inning to go up 9-0. Keeney hit back-to-back home runs in his second and third plate apperances. Tonight the bats were well awake as the Sunbirds pounded out 18 hits. First baseman Jacob Burns went 3 for 3 with a double and two runs scored. Anthony Lowell and Joey Norwood each went 3 for 4 and tallied two RBI's apiece. Along with his two home runs, Keeney finished the night 3 for 5 at the plate. The Cougars got on the board in the sixth inning as they scored three runs to make the score 13-3 after seven innings. They would go on to score four more runs, but still fell eight runs short of the Sunbirds. Tonights win marks the sixth in a row for the 14th ranked Sunbirds and also brings them within two games of the conference leading Cougars. The Sunbirds improve to 26-9 overall and 18-7 in the GSAC. They will play the Cougars tomorrow for the series finale. Currently they are up 2-1 and will look to gain another game in tomorrows game. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
