#14 Sunbirds take season series against #4 Cougars

box score

Azusa- A back and forth game, which came down to the final inning, ended in an 11-10 win for the Sunbirds. Josh Jackson, Case Rigby and Aaron Lynn each dialed in for a home run.

Just like yesterday, the Sunbirds didn't waste any time in the first inning. Jared Coleman started the game off with a single and later scored when Joey Norwood roped a single to center field.

This time Azusa didn't wait to get on the score board and answered with two runs in the bottom half of the first inning. They also would add one more in the third frame to go up 3-1.

The bats came alive in the top of the fourth inning for the Sunbirds. Case Rigby hit a one out solo home run to cut the lead to one. A bases loaded triple by Coleman gave the Sunbirds a 5-3 lead.

Norwood hit another RBI single to bring in Coleman. Jackson cleared the bases with a two run bomb over the left field fence, which made the score 8-3 in favor of the Sunbirds.

Not to be out done, the Cougars climbed back to tie the ball game with a five run inning.

Both teams managed to plate a run as the final inning approached, but the Sunbirds scored the lone run in the ninth inning to set up the win. Justin Keeney drew a walk and then stole second to get in scoring position.

A hard hit ball by Anthony Lowell was misplayed by the Cougars third baseman, which allowed Keeney to scamper home for the 11-10 lead. Daniel Brodie, who came in with one out in the eighth inning, closed the door on the Cougars to record the win.

Today's win brings the Sunbirds to within one game of the GSAC leading Cougars. They also take the four game season series, 3-1, for the first time in the young history of FPU baseball.

The Sunbirds, now 27-9 overall and 19-7 in the GSAC, will be back in action this Saturday, April 12th, as they play host to the Concordia Eagles. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
