Thursday, April 24, 2008 - La Mirada, California La Mirada - Today was the start of a crucial week in the Sunbirds quest towards a Golden State Athletic Conference title. Starting pitcher, Chris Schwinden guided the Sunbirds to a 5-2 win with another complete game performance. Justin Keeney, Anthony Lowell and Casey Padgett each went 2 for 4 to lead the Sunbirds at the plate. The first two frames went scoreless for both teams. An RBI double by Andrew Douglas gave the Sunbirds a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Schwinden continued to dominate as he mowed down 13 consecutive Biola hitters. During his dominance on the mound, the Sunbirds continued to add to their lead with runs in the fourth and sixth innings. An RBI single off the bat of Case Rigby plated a run in the fourth and a solo home run by Jared Coleman tacked on another run in the sixth to make it a 3-0 ball game. Two more runs were added in the fifth inning, which made the game 5-0. The Eagles finally got to Schwinden for two runs in the home half of the fifth, but couldn't garner any other runs. The Sunbirds, now 32-11 overall and 24-9 in the GSAC, will travel to San Diego to take on San Diego Christian College. First pitch for the Saturday doubleheader is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
