Saturday, April 12, 2008- FPU Field Game 1: box score / Game 2: box score Fresno- In GSAC baseball action, the Sunbirds split a doubleheader with the Concordia Eagles. Game one went in favor of the Sunbirds, 5-1, and game two was a tough loss by a score of 4-2. Chris Schwinden, starter in game one, was marvelous once again. He pitched seven innings of one run ball and finished with 11 strikeouts. Four of the Sunbirds had a multi hit ball game. Anthony Lowell led the way with a 3 for 4 day and Casey Padgett, Andrew Douglas and Joe Halderman each recorded two hits apiece. The Eagles jumped on the board first, but the first inning run would be all Schwinden allowed. He went on to pitch six scoreless frames, while giving up just two hits in route to the win. Run number one came in the second inning for the Sunbirds. Justin Keeney reached base on a misplayed ball by the left fielder and later scored off Lowell's single. Another run would be put on the board thanks to Case Rigby's fifth inning home run. The Sunbirds offense stayed consistent for the next two innings with two runs in the fifth and one run in the sixth. Neither team would score in the last three frames which made the final score 5-1. As for game two, the Sunbirds were able to jump ahead early with a run in the second inning, but unfortunately didn't score again until the seventh inning. The late rally came two runs short in the 4-2 lost. Catcher Josh Jackson recorded two of the Sunbirds' five hits to pace Fresno Pacific at the plate. The split puts the Sunbirds record at 28-10 overall and 20-8 in the GSAC. They will be back in action this Wednesday, April 16th, as they take on The Master's College.
