Fresno- Another statement was made this evening as the Sunbirds took down another NAIA top 10 ranked team. An eight run, 12 hit performance gave the Sunbirds an 8-4 win over the #9 Mustangs. When it mattered the most the Sunbirds bullpen stepped up to the challenge and kept the Mustangs scoreless for the last four innings. Second baseman, Thomas Raymundo, did most the Sunbirds damage at the plate with his 3 for 4 night. In the top of the first inning the Mustangs would strike first. A double and a sacrafice fly put one run on the board to give them the lead. It didn't take long for the Sunbirds to fire back. Back to back doubles by Raymundo and catcher Josh Jackson set the table for the Sunbirds. Designated hitter Case Rigby jumped aboard the doubles band wagon and scorched his own to bring home two runs. He would later come across off when Jacob Burns hit the fourth double of the inning. The game stayed 3-1 for the next two innings, but things changed when the fourth and fifth inning came along. Three total runs by the Mustangs compared to only one for the Sunbirds, tied the ball game at four runs apiece. With the game all knotted up, the Sunbirds bullpen was called apon and answered right away. The two righthanders, Kellen Nunes and Jordan Keener, nailed the door shut for the last four frames to secure the win. The Sunbirds are now 13-5 overall and 9-3 in the GSAC. They will be back in action this saturday as they play host to San Diego Christian. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 12:00 p.m. Updated Records | |||||
