Thursday, March 27, 2008 - Santa Clarita Santa Clarita- In a pitchers dual and one that came down to the final inning, the Sunbirds outlasted The Master's College for their twentieth win. Jacob Burns pitched a complete came to guide the Sunbirds to the 2-1 victory. Burns only allowed five hits while striking out five. The lefty showed great command by not walking a single batter. Third baseman Joey Norwood went 1 for 3 with the game winning RBI in the top of the ninth. The first five innings went scoreless for both teams, but the Sunbirds cracked open the game in the top of the sixth. Mitch Mulligan and Thomas Raymundo both singled and a misplayed ball off the bat of Josh Jackson allowed Mulligan to scamper home for the first run of the game. It stayed a one run game until the bottom of the seventh. The Mustangs tied up the ball game with a home run. Justin Keeney got the ninth inning started with a single to right field. Two ground balls pushed Keeney over to third base to set up a game winning situation for the Sunbirds. Norwood came up big in the clutch with a two out single to center field. Keeney scored easily to put the game back in the hands of Burns, the starting pitcher. Burns continued to dominate with a 1-2-3 inning to close out the complete game win. Mulligan lead the Sunbirds at the plate with a 2 for 4 night.. Tonight's win improves the Sunbirds record to 20-7 overall and 12-5 in the GSAC. They will travel to Riverside, CA on Saturday, March 29th, for doubleheader action against California Baptist University. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Updated Records | |||||
