#15 Sunbirds keep on rolling with win over Lions

box score

Fresno- A first pitch home run by center fielder Jared Coleman set the tone early and the Sunbirds never looked back. Coleman sent belt high fast ball over the left field fence to give the Sunbirds the 1-0 lead.

Antone Ontiveros pitched five solid innings to pick up the win.

It was an offensive showcase for the Sunbirds. They continued to light up the scoreboard for four consecutive multi-run innings.

Most of the damage came in the fourth inning. Coleman continued his hot hitting with a single to center field and later stole second base to get in scoring position. With two runners on, catcher Josh Jackson delivered a two run single up the middle to score Coleman and Thomas Raymundo.

Pinch runner Andrew Douglas scored on a fielders choice and left fielder Justin Keeney later scored the fourth run of the inning off Jeff Taylor's single to left field.

Ontiveros didn't let the lead break his concentration and continued to dominate. He tallied eight strikeouts while giving up one run.

Patten University managed to score two more runs, but the Sunbirds lead and solid pitching secured the 13-3 win.

Coleman tallied four RBI's and went 4 for 6 at the plate to lead the Sunbirds. Keeney also recorded one RBI and went 3 for 4 on the night.

The win improves the Sunbirds record to 17-6 overall. They will host Patten again tomorrow afternoon. First pitch at FPU Field is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
