Thursday, March 20, 2008 - FPU Field Fresno- Earlier this afternoon the Sunbirds won their fourth consecutive game. They pounded out 12 hits in route to a 10-2 win over the Patten University Lions. Kellen Nunes pitched six solid innings to keep the Lions off balance. He only surrendered seven hits and two runs to improve his record to 2-0. Joey Norwood plated the first run with a one out single to left field. He later came across to score when Mitch Mulligan scorched a double down the left field line. Mulligan's double also brought around Aaron Lynn. Jared Coleman stayed hot with a double to left center and scored Mulligan. Jacob Burns' two out single brought Coleman around to score the fifth run of the second inning. Nunes continued to dominate. He didn't surrender a run until the sixth inning. Down 5-0, the Lion's plated two runs but little did they know the Sunbirds would answer with five more. In the sixth and seventh inning the Sunbirds brought five runs across the plate. The bullpen allowed just one hit as they nailed the door shut for the win. Coleman (2-4), Case Rigby (2-4) and Norwood (2-3) each had multiple hits to lead the Sunbirds. Mulligan chipped in three RBI's. The win improves the Sunbirds record to 18-6. They will be back in action this Saturday for a make up doubleheader against Concordia University.
