Sunbirds get two early signees for 2009 Season
Fresno - Fresno Pacific University head baseball coach Oscar Hirschkorn has received two letters of intent for the 2009 season.
David Hawes out Maripora High School and Karlan Andrews from Redwood High School will be joining the Sunbirds for the 2009 campaign.
Hawes, who was one of the most sought after pitchers in the area, will look to assist the Sunbirds on the mound along with a possible role in the infield.
"Hawes is a very talented player," said Head Coach Oscar Hirschkorn. "he will be a huge asset both on the mound and in infield."
Andrews, who plays primarily in the the middle infield, was also a hot prospect coming out of the the valley. He will look to assist the Sunbirds at either the short stop or second base position.
"Andrews is another kid who will be able to help us get to where we want to be as a program." said Hirschkorn. "We look forward to having him join our team in 2009."
The Sunbirds will start their 2008 campaign as they travel to Oakland to take on Patten University in doubleheader action on Tuesday January 29, 2008. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 am.
Not only did the Sunbirds land great players on the field, but they were able to sign two players who will show the definition of a student athlete.
"We signed two great athletes," said Hirschkorn. "but more importantly they are two incredible people both on the field and in the classroom."
The Sunbirds 2008 campaign will begin against Patten University as they travel to Oakland to take on the Lions. The first of two games is scheduled for Tuesday January 29, 2008 and first pitch will be at 11:00 a.m.
