#12 Sunbirds lock up second place in the GSAC with sweep

San Diego - Second place solely belongs to the Sunbirds after a sweep over San Diego Christian. Today also marked the third win in as many tries this week.

Aaron Lynn pitched seven and two third innings of three-hit baseball to guide the Sunbirds to victory. Antone Ontiveros recorded is eighth win of the season in the night cap.

Game one started off slow for the Sunbirds. San Diego Christian's starting pitcher, Garrett Lingle, held the bats in check for the first five innings.

With one swing of the bat, Anthony Lowell sent a three run home run over the left field fence. His home run made up for the 3-0 deficit from the first inning. 

The runs kept pouring in after Lynn silenced the Eagles in the bottom of the fifth. Two runs came across due to a bases loaded error by the Eagles center fielder. Lowell added two more RBI's with  a three bagger.

Back to back multiple run innings lead the Sunbirds to the 7-3 win.

The Sunbirds never trailed in the nightcap. Three runs in the third along with two more in the fourth outlasted San Diego Christian, 7-4.

Ontiveros allowed just two runs in his five frames of work. He also tallied seven strikeouts.

Justin Keeney and Lowell each doubled home runs in the third. Lowell later came across to score off an error by the Eagle's third baseman.

Mitch Mulligan started the fourth inning with a single and was brought home when Joe Halderman scorched a single to the short stop. Keeney copied his third inning double to drive home the second run of the inning.

San Diego Christian tried to chip away at the lead but couldn't muster up enough for the comeback.

Today's sweep locked up a second place finish in the GSAC for the Sunbirds, which also award's them a first round bye in the Region II Tournament, May 6-9. They improved to 34-11 overall and 26-9 in the GSAC. A trip to Biola University on Tuesday April 29th will wrap up regular season play. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
