Santa Clarita- Earlier this afternoon the Sunbirds pulled out a nail bitter against The Master's College. Both squads jumped on the score board in the early innings, but great pitching and timely hitting allowed the Sunbirds to score the game winner in the ninth inning to win 2-1. Starter Aaron Lynn went six innings and gave up just one run. He fanned four batters and surrendered just five hits. Closer Daniel Brodie pitched one and a third innings of hitless baseball for the win. His record is now 3-2. The Mustang's plated the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning, but that would be all the Sunbirds' staff would give up. To tie the ball game at one run apiece, the Sunbirds scored off an error by the Mustang's first baseman. Case Rigby came across home plate on the misplayed ball. The bats stayed silent for the Sunbirds as they only accumulated three hits for the game, but a clutch single by second baseman, Casey Padgett, was enough for the Sunbird's to outlast the Mustangs. Andrew Douglas took one for the team as he reached base after being hit by a two out pitch. He used his speed to steal second to set up a game winning situation for the Sunbirds. Padgett singled up the middle to bring home Douglas, which would be the game winning run. Brodie stayed in to retire the side in order and seal the win. With the win, the Sunbirds improve to 29-10 overall and 21-8 in the GSAC. They will host the Mustangs tomorrow afternoon for the regular season series finale. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
