#19 Sunbirds take two from Westmont

Game 1: box score / Game 2: box score

Fresno- First order of business was to finish the suspended game that was cut short due to weather down in Santa Barbara, California. The Sunbirds held a 4-3 lead when play was stopped and they continued to pour in the runs this afternoon. A one run game quickly got out of hand and ended in a 12-3 stomping by the Sunbirds.

The Sunbirds wasted no time and scored in each of the remaining innings. Eight runs were accumulated from the sixth inning to the ninth. Three of the four innings saw multiple runs and the Sunbirds would smack the ball around the yard for 15 hits.

Kelyn Schellenberg stepped in to pitch the first two innings, 6th-7th, and retired all six batters he faced. David Zizzo followed suite by not giving up a hit in his one frame of work and Jon Steele closed the game with a scoreless ninth inning.

Thomas Raymundo tallied three RBI's and scored three times while going 2 for 3 to lead the Sunbirds at the plate. Five other Sunbirds compiled more than one hit for the game.

Jacob Burns, original starting pitcher, was awarded the win to improve his record to
4-1.

In game 2 the Sunbirds fell to an early 3-0 deficit and they were unable to plate a run until the bottom of the fifth inning. In that inning they scored five runs and mirrored the fifth inning with five more runs in the sixth.

The seventh inning saw the final run of the game to make it an 11-3 victory for the Sunbirds. After the fourth inning, the Sunbirds pitching staff stymied the Warriors offensive attack and kept them off the score board for the remainder of the game.

Kellen Nunes, Aaron Lynn, Jordan Keener and Daniel Brodie staffed the Sunbirds to their second win of the day. Lynn was credited with the victory to improve his record to 2-1.

Anthony Lowell lead the Sunbirds at the plate with two runs, two RBI's while going 2 for 4. Josh Jackson and Joe Halderman each had a 2 for 3 day at the plate for a multi hit game.

The two wins improves the Sunbirds record to 22-9 overall and 14-7 in the GSAC. They will host Westmont tomorrow, April 3rd. First pitch is scheduled for a 2:00 pm start.
