Sunbirds @ Westmont College (2:00 pm)- Suspended

Santa Barbara- After moving the game down to Westmont, due to the threats of rain here in Fresno, things still didn't pan out for a sun shinning day and the game was suspended after five innings of play.

Currently the Sunbirds lead 4-3 and the game has been postponed for April 2nd. This will now add another game on top of the already scheduled April 2nd game against Westmont, therefore a new start time still needs to be determined.

Next game for the Sunbirds will be this Saturday, February 23rd, against Concordia University. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

Box score

Santa Barbara- The momentum from last Saturday's sweep carried over for the Sunbirds as they put it to the Westmont Warriors earlier this afternoon. A 14 hit and seven run performance kept the win streak at five and counting.

Jacob Burns not only out dueled the opposing pitcher for an eight inning shutout on the hill, but also got it done at the plate with a three run jack to help guide Fresno Pacific to victory.

The first four frames went scoreless for both teams in which seemed to be somewhat of a pitchers game. Back-to-back singles by catcher Josh Jackson and Joey Norwood ignited the fire for the Sunbirds, which led to three runs in the top of the fifth inning.

Not much could break the solid defense by the Sunbirds as they continued to shut down the Warriors attack. Still up by three, they would put another run on the board in the seventh and would continue with three more in the eighth.

With runners on first and second Burns stepped to the plate and sent a three RBI home run over the fence to create more distance between the two teams. His homer proved to take the wind out of the sails of Westmont, as the Sunbirds cruised to their fifth straight win.

Jackson and Norwood each had a multi hit day. Jackson led the way with a 3 for 4 game and Norwood was not to far behind with his 2 for 4 day at the dish. Along with his home run, Burns only allowed four hits in eight innings of scoreless ball.

The win improves the Sunbirds to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the GSAC. They will be back in action tomorrow as they play host to British Columbia. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
