Thursday, April 4, 2008- FPU Field Fresno- In their series finale against the Warriors the Sunbirds used an eight run inning to put the game out of reach. After jumping out to a slim three point lead, 4-1, the Sunbirds scored eight in the seventh inning to put the game out of reach. Jacob Burns pitched a solid seven innings to receive the win. The lefty tallied five strikeouts and allowed only one run in his seven frames of work. Designated hitter, Josh Jackson, went 4 for 5 at the plate with three RBI's to lead the Sunbirds in the batter's box. Burns set the tone early with a hitless first inning and the Sunbirds offense responded with two runs in the bottom of the first. Joe Halderman, center fielder, led off the game with a single and later stole second. He also advanced to third on a pass ball. Jackson's single brought home Halderman for the first run of the game. Thomas Raymundo later crossed home plate on a bases loaded walk to make it a 2-0 lead for the Sunbirds. The Warriors cut the lead in half with one run in the second, but Burns would not surrender another run in his final five innings of work. Before the overflow of runs in the seventh inning, the Sunbirds scored one run in both the third and fifth inning. Their final two at bats combined for ten runs and created too much distance for the Warriors to over come. With the win, the Sunbirds improve to 23-9 overall and 15-7 in the GSAC. They will host Vanguard University this coming Saturday, April 5th, for a doubleheader. First pitch in game one is scheduled for 11:00 am.
