Sunbirds strike early to run off the Red Hawks 4-1

FRESNO, Calif. – Sunbird soccer got underway on a positive note this afternoon as FPU jumped out to a 1-0 lead with less than five minutes elapsed. They would continue to play a solid match in route to the 4–1 victory.

Sophomore forward Jessica Pereschica netted the match’s first goal with a far post shot from the right side of the box. The match would stand still as both goalies held tough, but the Sunbirds would strike again as Ashley Sheer received the throw in from Randele Lawrence and scooted the ball past the goal keeper to make it  2-0 at the half.

A 14 to three shot advantage for the Sunbirds allowed them to keep the pressure on throughout the first stanza.

The Sunbirds started the second half where they left off and increased the lead to 3-0 at the 34:35 mark. TorI Alvarez joined the party of scorers as she beat her defender to send a rocket to the top right corner of the goal.

Simpson got on the board in the 74th minute to make the score 3-1, but the Sunbirds answered 30 seconds later thanks to a perfect pass from Julie Ramirez which set Pereschica up for her second goal of the day.

The score would stand at 4-1 in favor of the Sunbirds as they improved to 4-0-2 on the season. They will be back in action next Saturday, September 27th, when they host GSAC foe Point Loma Nazarene. Kickoff is scheduled for a 12:00 pm start.
