Super Bowl Fort Meyers, Florida - Jelena Pandzic left little doubt about her tennis skills in the minds of those gathered at the at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (I.T.A.) National Small College Championship in Fort Meyers, Florida. Pandzic dispatched Kasia Siwosz, the Junior College national champion 6-0, 6-0 to win the I.T.A. Small College Super Bowl Championship. "She played great tennis this morning," said FPU coach Neil Castro. "This is the best tennis she has played since she arrived at Fresno Pacific." Yesterday Pandzic defeated Kamila Dadakhodjeaval a of Auburn-Montgomery (Alabama) 6-1, 6-2 to win the NAIA title. With today's win Pandzic earned a "wild card" berth into the I.T.A National Intercollegiate Indoor Championship (NCAA Division I) hosted by Ohio State University, November 2-5, 2006. Saturday, October 14, 2006 - Fort Meyers, Florida Fort Meyers, Florida - Jelena Pandzic claimed the 2006 NAIA singles championship at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (I.T.A) National Small College Championship in Fort Meyers, Florida this morning. Pandzic defeated Kamila Dadakhodjeaval a of Auburn-Montgomery (Alabama) 6-1, 6-2 to win the NAIA title. The win propelled the junior from Split, Croatia, to the semifinal of the I.T.A. Super Bowl Championship. Pandzic defeated NCAA Division 2 champion Luliia Stupak (Armstrong Atlantic State) 6-4, 6-3 to advance to tomorrow's championship. Pandzic will face Kasia Siwosz, the Junior College national champion, Sunday at 10:30. Siowsz defeated the NCAA Division 3 champion, DePauw's Liz Bondi, 6-3, 6-1. The winner of Sunday's championship will receive "wild card" berth into the I.T.A National Intercollegiate Indoor Championship hosted by Ohio State University, November 2-5, 2006. Friday, October 13, 2006 - Fort Meyers, Florida Fort Meyers, Florida - Fresno Pacific University's Jelena Pandzic advanced to tomorrow's championship of the I.T.A. National Championship with a text book 6-0, 6-0 win over Hanna Im of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Daytona Beach, Florida). So dominant was Pandzic that teammate Audrey Laib counted only nine points lost by the junior from Split, Croatia. When asked by head coach Neil Castro if she would stay to watch Laib and doubles partner Megan Hanner take on Kamila Dadakhodjeaval and Tereza Veverkova of Auburn-Montgomery, Pandzic politely declined. As she left for the hotel she told Castro, "I am focused." Pandzic will face Kamila Dadakhodjeaval in the championship tomorrow at 8:30 AM. In doubles action this afternoon, Dadakhodjeaval and Veverkova defeated NCAA Division 2 National Singles Champion Hanner and Laib 6-0, 6-3. Hanner and Laib then defeated Jennifer Le & Gabriela Nastasa of Oklahoma Christian University 6-4, 6-4 in the third-place match. Thursday, October 12, 2006 - Fort Meyers, Florida Fort Meyers, Florida - Fresno Pacific University junior Jelena Pandzic advanced to the semifinals of the I.T.A. National Championship with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Jill Haas of Olivet Nazarene (Illinois), this morning in Fort Meyers, Florida. Pandzic will face Hanna Im of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Florida), tomorrow morning at 10:30 (EST). In doubles action, the FPU team of Megan Hanner and Audrey Laib defeated Hanna Im and Natalia Anaya (Embry-Riddle, Florida). Hanner and Laib will face Kamila Dadakhodjeaval and Tereza Veverkova of Auburn-Montgomery in the semifinal tomorrow at 3:00 PM. | ||
