| Saturday, September 30, 2006 - San Diego ITA Region Championship SAN DIEGO - The Sunbirds sent only three women to the ITA Region Championship in San Diego this weekend and came home with all the hardware. Junior Jelena Pandzic defeated freshman teammate Audrey Laib 6-0, 1-0 (retired) to claim the singles championship. Laib retired in order to prepare for the doubles championship with partner Megan Hanner. It was a good decision. Laib and Hanner bested California Baptist's Dunya Wren & Marcela Montanha 8-4 to claim the doubles title. "It was a good weekend," said FPU head coach Neil Castro. "Megan, Audrey and Jelena all played well." The victories earned the trio a trip to the ITA National Championship, October 12-15, hosted by Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Meyers, Florida. |
