AIMS Education Foundation
Terry Bese, M.A.
Terry Bese has been a classroom teacher since 1986. With experience teaching math and technology courses at the K-12 and university levels, he brings a unique blend of theory and practice to the courses he teaches. Terry currently splits his time between developing and teaching online professional development courses for AIMS, and teaching, consulting in Instructional Design, and developing Digital Media for Fresno Pacific University. Terry is completing his doctoral dissertation in Educational Technology at Pepperdine University.
Sheldon Erickson, M.A.
Sheldon Erickson has been teaching since 1976, and his wide range of classroom experiences in grades three through ten provides a rich source of practical experience. Since his involvement with the initial AIMS writing team in 1981 he has been developing curriculum to actively engage students in learning math and science. Shelly currently splits his time between teaching middle school students and working as a research fellow at the AIMS Education Foundation. He also shares his practical knowledge and the engaging AIMS curriculum through in-service teacher training around the country.
Richard Thiessen, Ph.D.
Richard Thiessen started as a classroom teacher of mathematics at the middle school and high school levels. After completing the PhD Program in Mathematics/Mathematics Education at the University of Oklahoma in 1971, he taught at the university level, and for many years directed the Graduate Math/Science Education Program at Fresno Pacific University. Richard’s passion is for creating an active, engaging learning environment for students and teachers, and engaging students and teachers in thinking deeply about mathematical concepts and relationships.
Jim Wilson, M.A.
Jim Wilson entered education via the United States Peace Corps in 1964. After a two-year stint as a secondary mathematics teacher in Uganda, East Africa, Jim taught middle school math and science in California and Australia. Upon his return to the United States, he served as an elementary math resource teacher before moving into the district's Math, Science, and Computer Coordinator slot. In 1994 he retired from public education to join AIMS. Jim is very interested in the contemporary mathematics that has emerged from the arrival of the digital computer.
Dave Youngs, Sc.Ed.D.
Dave Youngs is one of the original members of the AIMS writing team, starting his work with AIMS in 1981. He currently splits his time between AIMS and Fresno Pacific University, where he teaches courses in undergraduate math, graduate math education, graduate integrated math/science education, and teacher education. Dave has taught on three continents, presented math and science workshops to teachers on five continents, and did his doctoral work in Australia. Dave has a passion for constructivism, Japanese lesson study, and working with teachers and students around the globe.
