Fresno Pacific Theater Auditions

Auditions are open to all FPU students. Fresno Pacific Theater welcomes diversity in casting. (See Current Productions for performance dates.)

  • Auditions for Barefoot in the Park by Neil Simon
  • Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at 6 p.m. (No preparation necessary!)
  • Theater Lab, Kriegbaum Hall Basement
  • Callbacks—Thursday, September 8, 6 p.m. (If you are unable to attend the first audition, please contact the director about doing your first audition at the Callbacks.)
  • Play synopsis: Paul and Corie Bratter are newlyweds in every sense of the word. He's a straight-as-an-arrow lawyer, and she's a free spirit always looking for the latest kick. Their new apartment is her most recent find—too expensive with bad plumbing and in need of a paint job. After a six day honeymoon, they get a surprise visit from Corie's loopy mother and decide to play matchmaker during a dinner with their neighbor-in-the-attic Velasco, where everything that can go wrong, does. Paul just doesn't understand Corie, as she sees it. He's too staid, too boring and she just wants him to be a little more spontaneous, running "barefoot in the park" would be a start...
    • "A bubbling, rib-tickling comedy."—The New York Times
    • "Critic weeps joyfully...I don't think anybody stopped laughing while the curtain was up last evening."—New York Daily News
  • Roles for 4 men, 2 women.
  • Rehearsals: Rehearsals are held on weekday evenings, generally 4 nights a week. Each rehearsal period is generally 3 hours (6:00-9:00, 6:30-9:30 or 7:00-10:00 p.m. depending on the semester). Technical rehearsals may run later. If cast, only conflicts presented at the time of the audition will be honored.
  • Preparing for the audition:
    • No experience necessary.
    • The audition consists of "cold readings" from the script.
    • Dress appropriately.
    • Preview the script. Scripts are available on 2-hour reserve at the Hiebert Library front desk under the author's name.
    • Bring your calendars to check for conflicts with the rehearsals and performance dates. Evening conflicts during the rehearsal period are discouraged; recurring evening conflicts are particularly difficult to accommodate.
    •

Contact the director, Bethany Rader, at 453-2041 or bethany.rader@fresno.edu for more information.
