Share why you teach at FPU

  • The FPU commitment to developing and supporting a community of learners is the foundation of my experiences as a student and teacher at FPU. As a student, I was challenged academically and philosophically while receiving valued support from fellow students and faculty. I found FPU to be a place where people were faithfully committed to service. I wanted to continue my relationship with FPU as a teacher to be part of the maintenance of that well-established tradition.
  • I believe in the FPU teacher education program mission that defines teaching as “a calling to redemptive service.” By participating in the training of teachers, I have an opportunity to impact children, schools and communities in a unique way. It is enriching and rewarding for me to work with teacher candidates as they establish themselves as scholars, professionals, leaders and peacemakers. I have learned a great deal about educational theory and higher education in just a few years on faculty at FPU. I look forward to furthering my knowledge and, in turn, strengthening my ability to contribute to the FPU community of learners.

Scholarly interests

  • Curriculum, assessment and teaching methods are the focus of my professional development. I endeavor to expand my knowledge in these areas in order to improve the courses I teach. I would also like to pursue an advanced degree within these areas of study in the future.

Professional and service experiences

  • I taught social sciences for eight years at Central High School in Fresno, California. During that time, I served as department chair and was a BTSA support provider for four years. I participated in the Fresno County Teaching American History Grant from 2000-2003. I was trained and participated in the AVID program from 2003-2006. I taught as an adjunct faculty member at FPU from 2003-2006. I am currently pursuing a teacher consultant position for Teacher’s Curriculum Institute.

Personal experiences

  • It has been a joy for me to work with the faculty in the teacher education program. I have benefited immeasurably from the mentorship of Bobbi Mason. I have enjoyed developing relationships with the students I work with as an instructor and university mentor.

Other information

  • My family is my greatest commitment and joy. I was born and raised in the Fresno area. I continue to be nurtured by a large, extended network of family and family friends. I am learning more than I ever imagined from my two young children, Alex (2 years) and Anna (3 months). I love to travel and be active. I play tennis regularly and golf occasionally.
