What programs do you teach in?

  • I am the director for the multiple subjects program in teacher education which is part of the School of Education. I teach the following courses: EDUC 646 (Lang/Lit II), EDUC 610 (Initial Student Teaching Seminar) and EDUC 630 (Final Student Teaching Seminar). In addition, I teach an advanced English learner course in the curriculum master's program (CRI).

  • I have been invited to present at national, state and local conferences and school districts in subject areas relating to the success of English learners in school. I am currently a consultant with Springboard Schools, a non-profit agency dedicated to closing the achievement gap in schools. I am also on the board as the Central Valley representative for ICCUCET—an association for private universities in California.

Personal Experiences

  • Sandra Mercuri was part of FPU faculty in Language, Literacy and Culture. We created time to collaborate on writing a book about strategies for teachers working with English learners, as well as several articles on the same topic.
