Teacher Education - Preliminary Single Subject Credential
Teaching is a calling to redemptive service.
The single subject preliminary credential program prepares secondary level teachers for work in local classrooms focused on a particular subject area and provides these educators with thorough preparation to teach in a diverse class setting. We expect that graduates of our credential programs will become scholars, professionals, peacemakers and leaders as they enter the teaching profession.
Single subjects available:
- Art, business, English, health sciences, home economics, languages other than English (LOTE), math, music, physical education, science, (biology, chemisty, physics and geoscience) and social science

What can I do with this credential?
- The preliminary single subject credential is designed specifically for graduates seeking a single subject teaching position in a middle or high school.
What are the admission requirements?
- Orientation interview
- Completed application form and fee
- Teacher Ed Addendum
- Three letters of recommendation
- Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
- Cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or better
- Application and fee for a certificate of clearance
- Verification of current negative TB test
- Verification of meeting the basic skills requirement
- Verification of passing appropriate subject matter exam
What are my program options?
- We treat all students as individuals. The following basic plans can be modified to meet individual needs:
- Full-time student
- Part-time student until final student teaching
- All courses are offered at the main campus in Fresno. Some courses are offered at the Visalia Center.
