TPA Support page
Fresno Pacific University has implemented a plan that we believe will provide credential students with strong support for completing the California TPA.
- Students will enroll in a one-unit course, Introduction to Educational Assessment (EDUC 697) during the first semester of their credential coursework. The TPA will be introduced during this course. In addition, students will learn about the web-based system we use to process their TPA's called TaskStream. Students will register for a minimum one-year TaskStream subscription when they take this course (current one-year TaskStream subscription: $42).
- Program directors who help students plan their courses and make sure that students complete TPA 1 and 2 before they enroll in EDUC 630/639 (Final, directed student teaching) or EDUC 640C/649C.
- All TPAs are "embedded" in credential courses as illustrated below:
| TPA | Multiple Subject Courses | Single Subject Courses |
|
Task One: Principles of Content-Specific and Developmentally Appropriate Pedagogy |
EDUC 642 EDUC 643 EDUC 646 SED 605 |
EDUC 693 EDUC 694 EDUC 692 SED 605 |
|
Task Two: Connecting Instructional Planning to Student Characteristics for Academic Learning |
EDUC 646 | EDUC 694 |
|
Task Three: Classroom Assessment of Academic Learning Goals |
EDUC 645 | EDUC 696 |
|
Task 4: Academic Lesson Design, Implementation, and Reflection after Instruction |
EDUC 630 | EDUC 639 |
Students often ask, "What does embedded in a course mean?" What will professors actually do in the course to support their students' efforts to successfully complete the TPA?
- Instructors will introduce the TPA template within the first 3 weeks of the course.
- Instructors will urge their students to download the TPA template and bring it along with other course materials whenever they come to class.
- Instructors will make explicit connections between course work and the TPA throughout the course.
- Instructors will not make the TPA a course assignment.
- Instructors will not give a grade on the TPA.
- Instructors will not give formative feedback on parts, or all of the TPA.
- Students will be encouraged to ask questions about the TPA during their course.
- Students will be expected to complete the TPA independently, and submit it through Task Stream.
