Director of Choral Activities
Full-time faculty member in undergraduate choral music and conducting

BACKGROUND
The music department offers a well-rounded curriculum for students in performance / composition, music education and church music. Excellence in choral music has been a tradition at Fresno Pacific University since its inception in 1944, and remains the heart of the music program today. The new Performing Arts Center is in the final stages of fund-raising.
ROLE
Depending upon areas of specialization, the director of choral activities will:
- Direct the Concert Choir, Pacific Chamber Singers and Women’s Chorale
- Teach a two-semester course in conducting
- Advise music education majors, church music majors and music minors
- Recruit students into the choral and voice programs
- Continue to develop relationships with high school directors and churches in the area
- Coordinate the annual high school choral festival
- Maintain an active schedule of performances at churches and collegiate choral festivals
- Participate in scholarly, departmental and university activities
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Commitment to the Christian faith and the university’s mission of Christ-centered teaching and learning
- Earned doctorate in choral conducting and/or choral music (a nearly completed doctorate will be considered)
- Experience in, or aptitude for, college-level teaching with demonstrated excellence in the areas of conducting and choral music, and the teaching of conducting
- Ability to work with students, staff and faculty in a collegial environment
- Successful recruitment and retention of students in a choral program
- Evidence of involvement in a church or the larger Christian community
Preferred:
- Ability to teach and work with persons from culturally diverse backgrounds
- Understanding of issues pertaining to the relationship between music and the Christian faith
- Performer/scholar – involved in community musical activities and outreach

COMPENSATION
Dependent on qualifications and experience, and paid out over 12 months. Benefits include insurance (medical, dental, LTD, life), retirement (TIAA-CREF), Section 125 options, and tuition remission for dependents.
