Electronic Databases
Some of these databases are accessible only to Fresno Pacific University and Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary students, faculty and staff.
FPU remote access: If you are using a remote computer (such as from home), you can access all of the databases through Campus Cruiser. To do so, follow the steps below:
- Log in to your Campus Cruiser account.
- Click on ACADEMICS.
- Click on LIBRARY RESOURCES.
- Click the link to access the database pages.
MBBS remote access: Go to ez.fresno.edu. You must enter a username and password. These are available from the seminary.

- Provides access to over 43,900 book titles in sixteen key subject areas.
- EBSCOhost Research Databases
- EBSCOhost includes the following research databases:
- Academic Search Premier: Multi-disciplinary database with full text for nearly 4,500 journals, of which 3,600 are peer-reviewed.
Alt HealthWatch: In-depth coverage across the full spectrum of complementary and alternative medicine.
ATLA Religion Database with ATLA Serials: Major religion and theology journals back to 1949.
Biological Abstracts: A complete collection of references to life science journal literature (1969-present).
Book Review Digest: Provides review excerpts and book summaries for current English-language fiction and non-fiction books for all ages.
Business Source Premier: Virtually all subject areas related to business.
Catholic Periodical and Literature Index: Includes indexed citations to articles published in Roman Catholic periodicals, papal documents, church promulgations, and books about the Catholic faith that are authored by Catholics and/or produced by Catholic publishers.
Communication & Mass Media Complete: Research in areas related to communication and mass media.
Essay & General Literature Index: Provides access to nearly 65,000 essays found in over 5,300 printed anthologies and collections published in the U.S., Great Britain and Canada, with coverage dating as far back as 1985.
GreenFile: Covers all aspects of human impact to the environment. Includes content on global warming, green building, pollution, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, recycling, etc. Indexing and abstracts for more than 384,000 records as well as full text for more than 4,700 records.
Health Source (Consumer Edition): Information on many health topics.
Health Source (Nursing/Academic Edition): Nearly 600 full-text scholarly journals focusing on various medical disciplines.
Humanities International Index: Bibliographic references to literary, scholarly and creative journals published in the U.S. and Canada (1975-present).
Library, Information Science & Technology Abstracts: Subject coverage includes librarianship, classification, cataloging, bibliometrics, online information retrieval, information management and more.
MEDLINE: Provides citations from over 4,800 current biomedical journals, containing authoritative medical information on medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, pre-clinical sciences, etc.
New Testament Abstracts: Contains more than 38,000 article abstracts, 1,200 review abstracts, 13,500 book abstracts, and 50 software abstracts.
Newspaper Source: Selected full text for over 200 regional U.S. newspapers, international newspapers, newswires and newspaper columns.
Old Testament Abstracts: Includes indexing and abstracts for journal articles, monographs, multi-author works and software related to Old Testament studies. Topics covered include antiquities, archaeology, biblical theology, philology and much more.
PsychARTICLES: Full text articles (1987-present) from 49 journals published by the American Psychological Association and allied organizations.
PsychINFO: Bibliographical references—most with abstracts or content summaries—to psychological literature (1887-present).
Regional Business News: Coverage of 75 business journals, newspapers and newswires from across the United States.
Short Story Index: A detailed index of more than 76,500 stories from more than 4,025 collections.
Social Science Abstracts: Contains indexing for more than 500 publications covering a wide range of interdisciplinary fields such as addiction studies, anthropology, corrections, economics, gender studies, gerontology, minority studies, political sciences, psychology, sociology. Indexing coverage dates back to 1983.
SPORTDiscus With Full Text: The world's most comprehensive source of full text for sports & sports medicine journals, providing full text for more than 415 journals indexed in SPORTDiscus. Of those, nearly 250 have cover-to-cover indexing in SPORTDiscus. - The Education Resources Information Center (ERIC)
- ERIC is a personalized Internet-based service providing education information to teachers, librarians, counselors, administrators, parents and anyone interested in education throughout the United States and the world.
- Fresno Area Medical Libraries: Journal Holdings
- A list of journals owned by the five medical libraries in Fresno, including selected titles from the Alliant University library. Includes only journal titles and does not provide access to individual articles.
- JSTOR
- Journal Storage: The Scholarly Journal Archive provides electronic full text access to back issues of core journals in the humanities, social sciences and sciences.
- RAMBI: Index of Articles on Jewish Studies
- RAMBI is a selective bibliography of articles in the various fields of Jewish studies and in the study of Eretz Israel. Material listed in Rambi is compiled from thousands of periodicals and from collections of articles mainly from the holdings of the Jewish National and University Library. Click on "Rambi Web" to begin a search.
- Sage Journals Online
- SAGE Publications publishes over 460 journals in Business, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Science, Technology and Medicine. SAGE Journals Online is the delivery platform that provides online access to the full text of individual SAGE journals. The SAGE Full-Text Collections, SAGE's award-winning, discipline-specific research databases, are also available on SAGE Journals Online.

- The Library of Congress is the largest library in the world, with millions of books, recordings, photographs, maps and manuscripts in its collections. With such a large collection, the library's online catalog is an excellent resource for finding items not in the Hiebert Library collection.

Other reference tools
- Bowker's Books in Print
- A database of books, audio books and videos currently in print. Click on "Advanced Search" and you will be asked for a user name and password. These are available by calling Hope Nisly at 559-453-2223.
- RefWorks
- RefWorks is a Web-based bibliography and database manager that allows you to create your own personal database by importing references from text files or online databases. You can use these references in writing papers and automatically format the paper and the bibliography in seconds. You will need to create an individual account the first time you login to RefWorks.
- ORION Bibliography on Dead Sea Scrolls
- Includes books, articles and reviews related to the Dead Sea Scrolls from 1995 to the present.
- Thesaurus Linguae Graecae
- The Thesaurus Linguae Graecae (TLG®) is a research center at the University of California, Irvine. Founded in 1972 the TLG has already collected and digitized most literary texts written in Greek from Homer to the fall of Byzantium in AD 1453.
