Fresno Pacific University has learned that the man who pointed a gun at the police and was subsequently shot by officers—23-year-old Rod Fiorini—was a recent enrollee at the university. He was 1 unit shy of senior status, having transferred most recently from Fresno City College after studying at Fresno State and a college in Montana. He had indicated interest in joining the track team at FPU. According to news reports, Fiorini was transported by ambulance to Community Regional Medial Center following the shooting—which took place at his Tower District home—where he was pronounced dead. Our prayers go out to his family and friends as they deal with the aftermath of this tragedy.
