The marriage and family therapy (MFT) program is a vibrant, rapidly growing program situated within the Biblical Seminary at Fresno Pacific University. The program is currently offered in at our campuses in Fresno and Visalia. Our faculty members are known for engagement with students and communities. Fresno County is ethnically diverse and has several of the deepest pockets of poverty in the United States. The MFT program prepares students to engage with people who are at-risk, underserved, or marginalized.
Responsibilities:
This MFT program is looking for a faculty member to join a growing faculty and a department in marriage and family counseling. In addition to a strong emphasis on the integration of counseling and the Christian faith, unique elements of the MFT program include a priority of assisting students in the development of personal character not limited to academic achievement and counseling skills. Teaching and mentoring are prioritized, and research is encouraged. MFT faculty function as part of an interdisciplinary team with faculty in Bible, theology and missions. An entrepreneurial spirit with interest in developing new ministry horizons is highly desired.
Positions 1 & 2
The faculty member would teach a range of counseling courses such as human development, professional ethics, counseling children, research testing and family assessment, and interpersonal communication. Some instructional load may be available in the undergraduate psychology department. The successful candidate will demonstrate commitment to departmental, university and community service.
Qualifications:
Required for Positions 1 & 2
- A terminal degree (Ed.D., Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in counselor education, psychology, or related field;
- California MFT license (or related license) or license eligible;
- Record or promise of scholarly achievement;
- Evidence of capacity of entrepreneurial initiative;
- Experience in working with diverse populations;
- Evidence of strong communication skills;
- Commitment to the Christian faith and the university’s mission of Christ-centered teaching and learning and involvement in a local church.
Preferred for Position 1
- Graduate degree in Bible or theology;
- Graduate teaching experience;
- Counseling experience;
- Professional ministry experience;
- Knowledgeable regarding a wide range of theories of counseling, with interest in psychodynamic or postmodern psychotherapy to increase the breath of this program;
- Involvement in an Anabaptist/Mennonite church.
Preferred for Position 2
- Ability to teach and counsel in Spanish;
- Graduate degree in Bible or theology;
- Graduate teaching experience;
- Counseling experience;
- Professional ministry experience;
- Involvement in an Anabaptist/Mennonite church.
