Archivist

Job Description:

The archivist is a full-time professional librarian position that provides archival and special collection library services for two special collections/archives programs in the Hiebert Library at Fresno Pacific University. The Mennonite Library and Archives, founded in 1963, is the official archives of Fresno Pacific University, the Pacific District Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches, and MB Missions, and also holds a wide variety of archival collections donated by individuals. Total archival holdings are roughly 1000 linear feet. It also includes a special library collection of over 19,000 volumes documenting all aspects of the Anabaptist-Mennonite story. The Central Valley Religion Archives, founded in 2012, holds records of inter-denominational and para-church organizations from California’s Central Valley. The archivist will report to the director of Hiebert Library.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide reference and retrieval services for students, faculty and other researchers.
  • Process, arrange and describe collections in accordance with professional standards.
  • Assist university and denominational agencies in identifying, appraising, scheduling and managing records.
  • Develop and manage digital collections.
  • Supervise student assistants and volunteers.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library and information science program or equivalent accredited graduate archives management program.
  • Knowledge of American religious history.
  • Evidence of strong communication, analytical and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of library and archival computer applications.
  • Commitment to the Christian faith and the university’s mission of Christ-centered teaching and learning, and involvement in a local church.

Preferred:

  • Terminal degree.
  • Expert knowledge of Mennonite history.
  • Involvement in an Anabaptist/Mennonite church.

Compensation:

Dependent on qualifications and experience, and paid out over 12 months. Full-time benefits include insurance (medical, vision, dental, LTD), retirement (TIAA-CREF), Section 125 options.
