Faculty in Peacemaking and Conflict Studies
Full-time with faculty rank; continuing status track (tenure); 9 month faculty appointment in the School of Humanities, Religion and Social Sciences.
Start Date:
July 1, 2013- Applications will be reviewed beginning November 15, 2012, and an appointment made as soon as a suitable candidate is discerned.
Responsibilities:
- Teach in graduate, undergraduate and/or degree completion programs as needed;
- Teach courses such as Theological Ethics of Conflict & Peacemaking, Conflict Management and Resolution, Internship in Peacemaking, Conflict Transformation, International Conflict and Peacemaking, Introduction to Alternative Dispute Resolution (online), and Restorative Justice;
- Contribute to university and community related Center for Peacemaking and Conflict Studies (CPACS) activities and services;
- Teach in traditional undergrad, degree completion and graduate programs.
- Participate in scholarly, departmental, school and university activities.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Doctorate in a field related to peacemaking and conflict studies from an accredited institution;
- Record or promise of scholarly achievement;
- Mentor and advise peacemaking and conflict studies majors (as well as general education students);
- Experience in conflict resolution and peacemaking;
- Understanding of issues pertaining to peacemaking, conflict resolution, restorative justice and the Christian faith compatible with the Center for Peacemaking and Conflict Studies;
- Desire to prepare students for positions where they can exercise leadership which reflects the goals of the program;
- Experience in, or aptitude for, college-level teaching;
- Desire to engage students in international/cross-cultural explorations of peace and conflict;
- Ability to work with students, staff and faculty in a collegial environment;
- Commitment to the Christian faith and the university’s mission of Christ-centered teaching and learning and involvement in a local church.
Preferred:
- Experience in mediation and victim-offender dialogue;
- Evidence of scholarly contributions to criminology, victimology, restorative justice, peacemaking, conflict studies or related fields;
- Theological education;
- Experience living and working outside the United States;
- Basic confidence in one of the languages, other than English, spoken in the Fresno area;
- Active involvement in a historic peace church.

Compensation:
Dependent on qualifications and experience, and paid out over 12 months. Full-time benefits include insurance (medical, vision, dental, LTD), retirement (TIAA-CREF), Section 125 options.
