School Psychology PPS Credential/Master's Degree Program

The PPS school psychology program within the pupil personnel services division offers both a master of arts in school psychology and a California school psychology credential.

Our Graduates

This program is designed for those who wish to become school psychologists. Graduates primarily work in school settings including public, private and child development organizations. Some also work in higher education settings.

Admissions Requirements

  • Three references
  • Valid California credential or Certificate of Clearance
  • Verification of passing the CBEST(credential requirement)
  • Verification of current negative TB test
  • GRE or MAT results
  • Official transcript of BA/BS degree
  • Letter of explanation if your GPA is under 2.75

Timeline

The program is designed so that all students move through the program as a cohort. Classes begin in the fall of each academic year (August). To be considered for a fall cohort, the deadline for submission of all admission material is in early April. Prerequisite courses and test requirements must be completed before formal admission is granted.

Further Information

  • Liability insurance is required before supervised experience can begin. Information on obtaining liability insurance may be found at www.schoolcounselor.org or at www.nasponline.org.
  • To be eligible to apply for the professional clear school psychology credential the following additional requirements must be met:
    • Master's degree in school psychology or a related area
    • 1,200 hour internship (Students must complete all courses except the master's research core to be eligible for an internship.)
    • Passing score on the NASP PRAXIS exam (The program passing score will be a minimum of 100 points below the NASP passing score.)
