Teacher Education - Preliminary Single Subject Credential

Teaching is a calling to redemptive service.

The single subject preliminary credential program prepares secondary level teachers for work in local classrooms focused on a particular subject area and provides these educators with thorough preparation to teach in a diverse class setting. We expect that graduates of our credential programs will become scholars, professionals, peacemakers and leaders as they enter the teaching profession.

Our Graduates

The preliminary single subject credential is designed specifically for graduates seeking a single subject teaching position in a middle or high school.

Admissions Requirements

  • Orientation interview
  • Completed application form and fee
  • Addendum - teacher education
  • Three references
  • Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
  • Cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or better
  • Certificate of clearance (fingerprints)
  • Verification of current negative TB test
  • Verification of meeting the basic skills requirement
  • Passing CSET test results or an appropriately signed CSET waiver letter from a college or university with a CTC-approved teaching emphasis

Program Details

  • We treat all students as individuals. The following basic plans can be modified to meet individual needs:
  • Full-time student
  • Part-time student until final student teaching
  • All courses are offered at the main campus in Fresno. Some courses are offered at the Visalia Center.

Single subjects available:

Art, English, Spanish, math, music, physical education, science (biology, chemistry, geoscience, physics), social science
