Dial-Up Instructions - Windows 2000

To Set Up Dial-Up with Windows 2000:

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Click on Settings
  3. Click on Network & Dial-up Connections
  4. Double Click on Make a New Connection

A screen called Network Connection Wizard will appear, click Next:

  • Choose Dial-up to the Internet
  • Click on Next
  • On the next screen called Internet Connection Wizard choose I want to set up my Internet connection manually...
  • Click on Next
  • Choose I connect through a phone line or modem
  • Click on Next
  • Type in the phone number: 453-2301
  • Uncheck Use area code and dialing rules
  • Click on Next
  • Enter your information services department assigned User Name and Password
  • Click on Next
  • Enter Connection Name (e.g.: FPU Dial-up)
  • Click on Next
  • Click No under Do you want to set up an Internet mail account?
  • Click on Next
  • Click on Finish

Network and Dial-up Connection screen will appear after the last instruction. One of the connections in the list will show a telephone icon with the name of the connection (e.g.: FPU Dial-up)

To Set Up a Shortcut on Your Desktop for Your New Dial-up Connection:

  • Right click on the dial-up connection in the list
  • Choose Create a Shortcut
  • Click on the Yes button in the box that asks if you would like to put the shortcut on your desktop

To dial-up, double click on the shortcut you have just created and fill in your assigned User Name and Password. Then just click on the Dial button.
