Student Network Policy

The information technology services staff provide the following services to students:

  • Ethernet Internet service to all dorm rooms,
  • Campus Cruiser email accounts, and
  • Basic instructions for setting up network configurations (available in the stacking boxes in front of the IT services department in the Kreigbaum Hall basement or via the IT services website).

FPU's current student support policy includes confirming Ethernet access is available to each dorm room, but does not include extended trouble-shooting services.

Following are some do's and don'ts related to student network use:

DO use the internet for research and general information searching. DON'T use hubs, switches and/or wireless access points in your dorm room.
DO understand that it is the responsibility of the user to ensure the security and confidentiality of his or her computer password and account information. DON'T use game servers, MP3 servers, or any operation that would cause any undo stress upon the network.
DO use anti-virus software on your personnel computer as many viruses are "network aware." (Required beginning Fall 2004. Available via the IT services office, Kriegbaum Hall) DON'T share files and folders. The network is not confidential or secure; please be sure to turn all file sharing off. Additionally, be aware that FPU makes use of a program called Audible Magic to block the illegal transfer of copyrighted material via file sharing programs such as Bear Share, Kazaa, Morpheus, etc..

Students acting outside of these guidelines will lose their network privileges from Fresno Pacific University.
