Fall course offerings at Fresno campus

MB Biblical Seminary’s Fresno campus will begin its 2006 fall semester on August 28. A sampling of course offerings can be found below along with tuition costs and tuition waiver information.

The Church and God’s Mission (3 units) (MB focus)
(Wednesdays 8:30am-11:30am) – This course explores the biblical theme of God’s reign as the key message announced by Jesus in his person and work. It also integrates the theme of God’s reign in Jesus with an understanding of the mission of the Triune God in all of creation as carried out through the church in the power of the Spirit. A general framework for understanding a missiological ecclesiology will be developed and then applied to a specific cultural setting, North America.

Ministry in Daily Life (3 units)
(Mondays 6:00pm-9:00pm) – A study of the crucial role of the ministry of God’s people in daily life for the mission and ministry of the church of the 21st century. This course explores the biblical, historical, and theological perspectives that under gird the concept of ministry in daily life, including the ministries of competence, presence, ethics, change, lifestyle, and evangelism. Also, practical congregational and pastoral strategies for affirming, supporting, and equipping God’s people for ministry in daily life, especially the workplace, are developed.

Spiritual Formation (2 units)
(Tuesdays 8:30am-11:30am) – This course focuses on soul care as it is nurtured by the classic spiritual disciplines of solitude, silence, fasting, prayer, study, worship, service, and so on. A study is made of some of the key writings of spiritual formation both past and present. The course is to foster growth in discipleship while at Seminary and beyond.

Leadership Assessment (3 units)
(Friday, Sep. 22; Oct 21; Nov 17 – 6:00pm-9:00pm; Saturday, Sep. 23; Oct 22; Nov 18 – 8:30am-5:30pm) – The student will examine 13 behavioral traits, which have been identified through research as being critical for effective ministry. The students will evaluate their own lives in light of these traits. They will identify strengths and weaknesses and develop a strategic life plan, which strengthens weaknesses and reinforces strengths.

Counseling Sexual Addiction (1 unit)
(Friday, Sep. 22 – 6:00pm-9:00pm; Saturday, Sep. 23 – 8:30am-12:30pm)
This course will offer an overview of the core imperatives that need to be addressed for the successful recovery of sexual additions. These imperatives include: the Brain, Theology of the 12 Steps, Attachment Trauma, Co/Contra-dependency, Addiction Interaction Disorder and Family (kids, couples and family recover).

Child Abuse (0.5 unit)
(Saturday, Nov. 4 – 8:30am-5:00pm) – Instruction will include recognizing and assessing abuse, reporting procedures, and prevention, with a focus on both clinical and ministry applications and treatment. Course meets California BBS licensure requirements.

Tuition Waivers: All applicants on paid staff of a San Joaquin Valley church, para-church organization or counseling agency are eligible to receive their first regular MB Biblical Seminary course (credit or audit) for free. See the following link for more information.
