Information for New Students

Living on campus is a dynamic opportunity to translate faith into learning and living. A significant part of university life takes place in on-campus housing where students build community and learn to live with people different than themselves.

The residence life experience at FPU is designed to provide a safe and comfortable environment where you explore new ideas and grow closer to God and your community. Please read this information closely as it contains vital information about becoming part of campus life at FPU.

Eligibility
Any officially admitted, single student under the age of 24 is eligible to apply for campus housing. The university believes that residence halls provide an educational benefit to students. The experience of living and participating in a residence hall enriches the spiritual, intellectual, emotional and physical life. It is by nature experiential. One is challenged to learn and live with others who are different from themselves. It is an opportunity to translate faith into learning and living.

Therefore, all students are required to live in campus housing unless they are: living at home with their parents or legal guardian; 21 years of age or older; married; or are carrying fewer than 9 units.

Fresno Pacific University does not discriminate against any student or prospective student on the basis of sex, race, religion, physical disability or national origin. No application for residence will be denied for these reasons.

Application Process

  1. Carefully read the housing information and complete the Roommate Match Form.
  2. Submit a $200 housing deposit and a current photo with completed match form no later than June 1. Applications received after June 1 will be considered on a space-available basis.
  3. Send the completed Roommate Match Form, $200 housing deposit, photo and Name & Address Release Form to:
Fresno Pacific University

If your Roommate Match Form and deposit are received by the June 1 priority housing deadline, a letter informing you of your room assignment, the name of your roommate and detailed check-in information will be mailed to you. If you have not received this letter by the second week in August, please contact the Residence Life Office at 559-453-2073. Students whose applications are received after the June 1 priority housing deadline will be notified by email or telephone.

Assignments
New student housing assignments are made after the $200 housing deposit and Roommate Match Form is received. Special housing needs may be requested on the Roommate Match Form. If you are requesting a specific roommate, BOTH roommates must state their roommate preference on their Roommate Match Form. Preferences stated on the match form are taken into consideration in the final assignment process, but are not to be understood as a contractual stipulation. We reserve the right to assign housing based on any of the following criteria: roommate choice, class standing, age or the date of receipt of the Roommate Match Form and housing deposit. Assignments will be made to students of the same gender. Housing rates are charged according to living area style. Meal plans may be required based on location of assignments.

Cancellation
The application may be cancelled and the deposit refunded upon written request only. Cancellation deadlines are as follows:

  • June 1 - returning students
July 1 - new fall applicants
    December 15 - spring applicants

**Cancellations after above dates will be considered late and will result in a deposit forfeit.

    Move-In Dates
Information regarding specific move-in dates will be sent to residents with their housing assignments. Freshmen and transfer students are required to attend New Student Orientation starting on the Thursday before classes begin. Detailed information will be sent to students during the summer months.

    Accident/Health Insurance
The university requires all campus residents to carry accident/health insurance. An accident/health insurance plan is provided by the university and will be automatically charged to the student’s account if proof of insurance is not provided.

    Personal Property
The university does not carry insurance on personal property belonging to students and therefore assumes no liability for loss of personal items resulting from theft, loss or damage due to fire or flood. Students should make sure that any valuable personal property is recorded on their parent’s homeowner’s insurance.

    Contract Period
The housing contract period is for the entire school year beginning with New Student Orientation in August through to the day after graduation in May, excluding Christmas break. All living areas are closed for Christmas break. Students may spend the holiday with their family at home, a roommate’s family, or they may choose to stay with those families in local churches and the community who may offer their homes. The responsibility for finding a place to stay over Christmas break belongs to the student.

    Meal Plan Arrangements
All students residing in non-cooking living areas are required to be on the Full Access Meal Plan. All apartment and house residents have the option to choose between the Full Access Meal Plan, the 140 Block Plan, the 70 Block Plan or room only and no meal plan. Apartment and house residents have the option to change plans up to the second Friday of each semester. Special dietary needs can be accommodated through the cafeteria. Sack lunches/dinners and special diets may be arranged by submitting a written request to the Director of Food Services.

    University Furnishings
The university provides a bed (twin size and usually a bunk bed), desk, chair, drawers, closet/wardrobe and mini-blinds for the windows. The desks are equipped with a shelf and a desk light. They are designed specifically to accommodate a computer monitor and keyboard.

You may decorate your room, but may not paint your room or take screens off your windows. No permanent fixtures may be attached to the walls, ceiling or floor. The use of nails or screws in the walls is strictly prohibited. Homemade lofts are not allowed in any campus living environment.

    Resident Responsibilities
As a Christian institution, Fresno Pacific University offers a different experience than a secular university. Students who attend this university are expected to observe the Christian morals and standards of conduct outlined in the Student Handbook.
