Confidentiality and Notice of Exceptions
This is to advise you of your legal rights to privacy and confidentiality while you are a client participating in clinical counseling/psychotherapy. Federal and State laws require that any information about your case may not be released without your specific written consent (or parent/guardian consent, where applicable), except in the following situations:
- If you are a danger to yourself, others or property (e.g. threatening to kill or seriously harm yourself or another person); or when a family member communicates with the clinician that you are a danger to others;
- If the clinician has a reasonable suspicion that child abuse, elder abuse, or dependent adult abuse is occurring (or that past abuse was not reported);
- If you are gravely disabled;
- If the court orders the information to be released.
In these situations, the law compels your clinician to report to the proper authorities.
Cost
The first counseling session is free. The purpose of the first session is to discuss concerns and decide if counseling, on- or off-campus, would be beneficial. Each subsequent session for clinical counseling/psychotherapy costs $5.00. To protect client confidentiality, cash-only fees will be accepted. Additionally, a sliding scale is available for financial hardship.
