April is music month at FPU

Lessons and Carols just one highlight of the fall season

The 10th annual Lessons and Carols service was among a host of great FPU music events in November and December.

Classical harpsichord, jazz saxophone and flamenco guitar will be just some of the sounds audiences will hear at the 2012-2013 Pacific Artist Series.

Concert choir, San Joaquin Chorale celebrate Roy Klassen's career

Performances of musical masterpieces by Felix Mendelssohn and Johannes Brahms will celebrate the career of Music Faculty Roy Klassen on Sunday, April 25, in Paul Shaghoian Performing Arts Center, Willow and International, Fresno.

The program opens with Mendelssohn's "Elijah" at 4:00 p.m. After a light supper in the lobby, Brahms' "Requiem" follows at 7:15 p.m. Klassen will conduct about 120 singers from the Concert Choir and San Joaquin Chorale. Admission is $10 payable at the door.

Art set for major impact at FPU

After years in the minors, art is becoming a major player at FPU.

This fall the university upgraded its art minor to a full major, with concentrations in art administration, graphic arts and studio arts. Faculty members are Rebecca McMillen and Chris Janzen.

San Joaquin Chorale Concert offers three premiers

Audiences will hear three premiers for the price of one at the San Joaquin Chorale concert Saturday, May 3, 2008.

The chorale, under the direction of Fresno Pacific University professor Roy Klassen, D.M.A., will perform its spring concert at 7:30 p.m. in the First Congregational Church of Fresno, 2131 N. Van Ness Blvd.

Admission, payable at the door, is $10 for general audiences and $7 students and senior citizens. Call 559-453-2267 for more information.

Spring days bring spiritual plays

One spring week brought three plays with spiritual themes to FPU.

Nickel and Dimed comes to FPU--Fall play examines life for the working poor

The life of the working poor comes to the stage at FPU presents "Nickel and Dimed" as its fall mainstage production.

"Nickel and Dimed" will be at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, November 8-10 and 15-17, in Ashley Auditorium on the FPU campus, 1717 S. Chestnut Ave., Fresno, south of the intersection of Chestnut and Butler. Tickets are $8 for general admission and $5 for students and senior citizens.
