National title hopes fall short in first season loss
The best men’s soccer season in Fresno Pacific University history went undefeated all the way to the national finals as the Sunbirds finished first runner-up in the National Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (NAIA).
The University of Rio Grande (Ohio), won the November 25 match 1-0. The tournament took place in Olathe, Kansas.

Ken Isaak, sports information director at Fresno Pacific University, received the 2003 Clarence “Ike” Pearson Award from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics-Sports Information Directors Association (NAIA-SIDA). The award, given to an outstanding NAIA sports information director, will be presented June 28 during the NAIA-SIDA Annual Awards Luncheon at the Professional Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

Track facilities at Fresno Pacific University were enriched today by a gift from Save Mart Supermarkets.
The grocery chain donated over 25 tons of compost to help with seeding the area around the Bill Cockerham Track, part of the Steinert Athletic Complex. The first event on the new track, planned for this spring, will be the university’s first true home meet in more than 25 years. When complete, the $2.5 million complex will include the Max and Charlotte Steinert Soccer Field, scheduled for play in the fall of 2001.
