Shane Hipps looked at the Bible and how we read it during a visit to FPU.

In third grade Shane Hipps was diagnosed with dyslexia. One of his treatments involved placing a series of colored overlays and filters over his eyes to improve his brain’s ability to process visual information. Although Hipps confessed to only wearing the glasses to a “college 70s party” he uses them now as a metaphor to help people see the lenses they wear—assumptions they make—when reading the Bible.

Students from elementary, junior high and high schools across the county descended upon Fresno Pacific's main campus for History Day. The all-day event took place on March 16 in the Special Events Center. There were several competitions, including 2-D Exhibits, 3-D exhibits, performances, documentaries, historical papers and website development. The students' project had to be centered around this year's theme, "Turning Points in History: People, Ideas, Events". The winners received a medal, presented to them by FPU Associate Professor of History, Pamela Johnston, Ph.D.

FPU welcomed some old friends back to the Teacher Education Job Fair.

John M. Perkins loves the young people—and has a job for them.

“This is the first generation that values difference; that sees it as an asset,” Perkins told students, faculty and staff at College Hour chapel March 15 in the Special Events Center.

Tayler Wolfe, who enjoys volunteering, won the Miss Central Valley Pageant.

The third time was a charm for Dinuba's Tayler Wolfe. The 20-year-old blue-eyed college junior was crowned Miss Central Valley earlier this month and will compete for the title of Miss California in June.
 

Wolfe served a year as Miss Dinuba in 2009-10. She then ran unsuccessfully for Miss Tulare County in both 2011 and 2012.

Students, faculty and staff attended the Student Congress on Racial Reconciliation (SCORR) on February 22-23 at Biola University. The conference, featuring a breakfast talk by FPU President Pete C. Menjares, educated attendees about the diverse ethnic groups growing in communities and on campuses. The trip was organized by the Office of Spiritual Formation. Many hands built the FPU Fitness Center.

“With our New Fitness center I can confidently and proudly say that FPU meets the needs of students on the academic level through our superior class standards, the emotional and spiritual level through our Christ-centered values, and now physically with a facility that enables students to pursue a healthy lifestyle,” said Rachel Eng, the student speaker at the March 1 grand opening ceremony.

FPU athletics, a member of the Clovis Chamber of Commerce, hosted the chamber’s monthly mixer in the Steinert Campus Center. The event, held on February 20, was an opportunity for members of the chamber to network with each other and to also hear about the recent achievements of FPU athletics.
