Rod Janzen, Ed.D., professor of history, delivered the annual Donald Durnbaugh lectures April 19-20 at the Young Center for the Study of Anabaptism and Pietism at Elizabethtown College. His topic was the Hutterites and communal Christianity.

Sherry Walling, Ph.D., assistant professor of psychology, was the lead author of “Race/Ethnicity as a Predictor of Change in WorkingAlliance During Cognitive Behavioral Therapy forIntimate Partner Violence Perpetrators” in Psychotherapy: Theory, Research, Practice,Trainingin December 2011. There were four other authors.

Mark Baker, Ph.D., associate professor of mission and theology, published the article “Atonement,” in Dictionary of Scripture and Ethics, ed. Joel B. Green, published by Baker Academic.

Ryan Schellenberg, Ph.D., assistant professor of biblical and religious studies, presented the paper: "To en logō idiōtikon tou Apostolou: Revisiting Patristic Testimony on Pauline Rhetoric" at the annual meeting of the Society of Biblical Literature, San Francisco, Ca., November 20, 2011.

Fay Nielsen, Ph.D., associate dean of retention, gave a presentation and the 44th Annual Conference of the College Reading and Learning November 9-12 in San Diego. Melinda Gunning, M.A., director of the Center for Reading and Learning, helped prepare the presentation, titled “Whose Job Is It Anyway? Supporting Academically Disqualified Students.” 

Matt Gehrett, M.A., executive director of the Office of Continuing Education, gave a presentation titled “Personalizing Online Learning through the use of STEM Career Simulation Courses” November 10 at the “Empowered to Perform: Online and Blended Learning Models” conference in Indianapolis, IN. The conference was sponsored by the International Association for K-12 Online Learning.

Tim Neufeld, D.Min., associate professor of contemporary Christian ministries, published “Caring for Teens of Divorce” in the October/November 2011 Christian Leader.

Duane Ruth-Heffelbower, J.D., M.Div., associate professor of peacemaking and conflict studies, was named co-chair of the Association for Conflict Resolution Family Section in November. See acrnet.org

Bruce Boeckel, Ph.D., associate professor of English, spoke to more than 300 California high school students at the Academic Decathlon, sponsored by the Madera County School District. The theme of the October 13 presentation was "The Age of Empire” and Boeckel's lecture was titled "Heart of Darkness: A Descent in Nightmare."
