Personalized Certificate in Peacemaking and Conflict Studies

Conflict is complex, often shifting dynamics as personalities and environments change. To meet special interests and needs, FPU offers the personalized certificate in peacemaking and conflict studies. In consultation with the peacemaking and conflict studies program director and faculty, students may design a personalized program that fits his or her personal and professional goals.

Peacemaking And Conflict Studies (PACS) Program

The call to peacemaking is universal and timeless since conflict is always with us. Its shadow is found in all cultures in all times beckoning for response. When constructive, it leads to better understanding and deeper relationships. When destructive, it tends toward confusion and separation.

The following master's degree and certificates are offered through the PACS program:

Certificate in Restorative Justice

This certificate includes courses that teach the foundational concepts and skills of Victim-Offender Reconciliation Program (VORP) development, conflict management and restorative justice. This certificate is useful for those working in roles closely tied with the justice system and community-based organizations assisting in offender transitions, victim services or other restorative justice fields.

Certificate in Church Conflict and Peacemaking

Church leaders are often asked to aid in conflict management and resolution. This certificate helps prepare these professionals to gain both a deeper understanding of peace and practice in implementing conflict resolution strategies. The specific dynamics of church conflict are covered through explorations of peacemaking ethics, conflict analysis, group dynamics and interpersonal communication, as well as church conflict management.

Certificate in Mediation

This certificate prepares a professional to assist as a third party in negotiations between individuals or groups with conflicting perspectives, attitudes and/or actions. Curriculum and practice prepare the student to serve as a mediator who can help parties come to mutually acceptable agreements.
