The School of Education celebrated the contributions of Dave Derby and Donald McHatten December 5 in BC Lounge.
Both men were retiring from FPU. McHatten, assistant professor of special education, started his full-time faculty appointment in 2005, and Derby, assistant professor of education, in 2009. Both were program directors, with McHatten heading the special education program at the Visalia Center and the moderate-severe credential program. Derby directed the administrative services program.

Special attention and structure can give struggling students the edge they need to be successful in the classroom, educators were told at a conference hosted by FPU. Nearly 250 teachers and administrators attended “Putting RtI2 into Practice: Response to Instruction and Intervention with a Focus on Writing” May 12 -13 in Steinert Campus Center on the main campus.

Supporting students with strategic help in their regular classrooms is the goal of “Putting RtI2 into Practice: Response to Intervention and Instruction with a Focus on Writing,” May 12-13, 2011, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Special Events Center on the main campus.
