Fresno Pacific Theater is happy to present the first annual YES! Shakespeare Project this July - August (2013).

Through a partnership with Woodward Shakespeare Festival (WSF), FPU will co-host local teens in a three-week workshop around WSF’s summer season of Shakespearean plays. We will play games together, practice Shakespearean style, learn scenes and explore our creative voices by devising original scenes in response to the play material.

Pacific Bible Institute — the 1950s

     The story of Fresno Pacific Theater begins shortly after the school was established as Pacific Bible Institute in 1944. Dramatic sketches played an early part in campus worship. In 1955, PBI started offering a regular Dramatics course, followed later by a course in Dramatic Production. Students could learn stagecraft, “poise and self-confidence” alongside their Bible, church history, and ministry courses. PBI students produced full-length plays, one-acts, and sketches for the regular chapel meetings.

The theater minor offers grounding in theater history and literature, acting, stage make-up, and directing. This minor assists future drama work in school, community, camp or church settings and graduate/conservatory study.

The liberal studies major, theater concentration allows the student to specialize within the liberal studies program. Students pursuing teaching as a profession benefit from a strong background in the performing arts.

The arts are an important part of a liberal arts education. Scholarship programs in theater, music and art at Fresno Pacific University encourage students to develop their imaginations, aesthetic sensibilities and skills through involvement in the artistic life of the university. The drama scholarship is awarded to students who reflect a passion for theater, a capacity for growth and leadership, and a willingness to commit the time energy and creativity required by the theatrical endeavor.
