Mock Rock was the place to be October 13. This lip-sync competition, now in its fourth year, has become one of the most highly anticipated student events at FPU.
First place went to the Freshman Friends for their stunning Journey medley. A team from Strasbourg 3 residence hall took second dancing to Rebecca Black’s YouTube classic “Friday,” while third place went to a group of friends acting out the Harry Potter Puppet Pals remix.

A former student rejoined his teacher in the latest Pacific Artist Series concert. Upcoming performances are new music by the Del Sol Quartet; the songs, stories and history of Yosemite by Tom Bopp and a cantata composed by FPU emeritus Larry Warkentin.
Soprano Deborah Sauer-Ferrand and pianist Douglas Sumi (BA ’05) performed October 17 in the McDonald Hall Atrium on the main campus.

Pictured are works by Brandon Jacobs, who has spent the last 10 years perfecting an organic style that draws the viewer into his multimedia art pieces. His three-dimensional, large-format art feature found objects, paint and varnish. "My hope is to create an object that not only acts as a record of a cathartic act, but one that has the ability to touch an audience," he says.

Visitors to Hiebert Library, whether in person or online, benefit from a new integrated management system.
Cataloging, acquisitions, checkout, inventory and reference services are all improved. “This is the software that manages all the tasks a library does, said Kevin Enns-Rempel, interim director.
“Libraries today are a combination of physical items we have in the building and electronic items we subscribe to. We have never had a way to integrate all those,” Enns-Rempel said. “A lot of people didn’t know what we have because they didn’t know how to find it.”

The inauguration of the Center for Anabaptist Studies was celebrated October 11 in Ashley Auditorium on the main campus.
A new program developed by the center will be the Millennial Scholars. The initiative will bring together young adults to learn about Anabaptism and how to apply its principles in today’s world.

FPU clubs shared exotic foods with fellow students on Alumni Plaza as part of Lunch from Around the World. The meal was the final event of Building a Culture of Peace Week, October 3-7 , an annual celebration celebrating the amazing diversity at the university and in the Central Valley.

For the first time in North America, spoken Greek was heard as it was in biblical times.
Brian Schultz, assistant professor of biblical and religious studies at Fresno Pacific University, and Randall Buth, director of the Biblical Language Center, led 24 participants from 10 states and two African countries in a New Testament Greek workshop August 3-11.
These scholars did more than translate texts and discuss grammar in sessions at California State University, Fresno. They brought New Testament Greek to life by speaking it.

Norman Rempel, 65, died Saturday evening, October 15. He had lived with multiple sclerosis for several years.
Rempel served Fresno Pacific University as vice president and chief information officer and registrar, coming to the university in 1988. In 2006 because of his health Rempel took a part-time position as special projects administrator, working from his Fresno home. He resigned in 2009.

Some 22 mission local, national and international organizations were on the main FPU campus September 27 for the Mission Fair. Displays were set up in the Alumni Plaza where representatives spoke with students on ways to put faith into action. The annual event is hosted by the Office of Spiritual Formation.

Some 76 supporters of Fresno Pacific Biblical Seminary, including students, faculty, staff and friends, gathered in BC Lounge September 23 for the Seminary Celebration Dinner.
Lynn Jost, Ph.D., seminary dean and vice president of FPU, gave an update on enrollment; Cory Seibel, Ph.D., assistant professor, sang and played the piano and students Jennifer Lerma and Trent Voth spoke on the effect the seminary has had on their lives.
