Happy birthday Hiebert Library

University break October 5 was a celebration of Hiebert Library’s 50th birthday.

The building opened in October 1962 as the fourth, and largest, structure on a campus that was only two years old. The library was named for Cornelius Hiebert, who gave the major gift for construction. John and Maria Lohrenz, missionaries in India, were also large contributors.

“Better is One Day”—the song and the psalm that inspired it—summed up inauguration week September 24-28.

Crosswind, a student ensemble, performed the song at College Hour chapel Wednesday and the banquet Thursday. Menjares made Psalm 84 the theme of his speech at the inauguration ceremony Friday.

Cultural Awareness Night highlights Costa Rica (video link)

Fresno Pacific’s International Programs and Services Office hosted the first Cultural Awareness night of the 2012-13 school year on September 20. Each event features the culture of some of our international students. Costa Rica was the culture highlighted this month with presentations from students and a traditional meal representative of the area.

FPU reaches the "Pinnacle" of interactive learning

A program on the California Missions has landed Fresno Pacific a national award for interactive learning.

FPU is one of 40 cultural organizations to receive a 2011-2012 Pinnacle Award from the Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration (CILC). The Indianapolis-based nonprofit offers videoconferencing presentations from more than 200 museums, state parks, national historic sites and other organizations to educational outlets such as schools and senior citizens centers.

FPU among schools honored in presidential proclamation

Fresno Pacific University and other colleges and universities where Hispanics make up a significant sector of the student body are being honored this week.

A presidential proclamation designates September 16-22 as National Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) Week. FPU is among the institutions of higher education named an HSI by the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities.

The second annual FPU Church Rush was held Tuesday, September 11. Hosted by the Office of Spiritual Formation, this event gave students the opportunity to find a local church to attend during the school year.

Sunbird Conservatives pays tribute to 9/11 victims (video link)

The Sunbird Conservatives club placed numerous miniature American flags on the East Hall lawn Tuesday morning in remembrance of the victims of the 9/11 attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C.
