Introduction to Podcasts and News Feeds
Fresno Pacific provides "web feeds" for a selection of our events and news sections. We'll be expanding this over the coming months so you can always stay current with exciting news and events at FPU.
- What's an RSS Feed?
-
RSS stands for "really simple syndication." It's an extensible markup language (XML) file that can be read by a software program or a web service that can be accessed, for free, from your web browser. By subscribing to an RSS feed, you allow the feed reader to access latest news articles from Fresno Pacific. To subscribe to a feed, simply copy the address of the feed into your reader, and it will automatically display the latest FPU headlines, each one with a synopsis and link that will take you to the full story.
RSS feeds allow you to keep up-todate with many different sources of news and information - it's quicker than revisiting a site several times a day to check for updates, and rather than having to look for new headlines, feed readers scan for updates and display them for you.
- What's a Podcast?
-
Podcasts are simply a collection of audio files - interviews, event highlights, and more- delivered to your computer automatically, allowing you to receive regular updates and additions.
Subscribing to an FPU podcast is free of charge. The easiest way to subscribe to a series is through Apple's iTunes software (Windows PC or Mac OS X), and the related iTunes Music Store. If you do not have iTunes software for your computer, you can download it free of charge. The iTunes Music Store can be accessed through iTunes software.
If you already have the latest version of iTunes installed, simply click on the link associated with any podcast. You'll be taken directly into iTunes, and the page for that podcast will load automatically. Simply click on the "subscribe" button to automatically download new additions to the podcast for free.
If you sync an iPod music player to your computer, subscribing to a podcast also means that updates will be loaded to your iPod each time you connect it to the computer.
Subscribing as a podcast with other devices and software
iTunes is very popular, but there are many other free programs that will allow you to subscribe to a podcast, such as Juice. For all FPU podcasts, you will find the feed URL below the podcast feed links in the feed directory.
