Fresno Pacific is a vibrant Christ‐centered university that is transforming California’s Central Valley and global communities through exemplary service to students of all ethnicities and cultures. Innovative programs encourage academic and professional excellence, peacemaking, social justice, ethical leadership, holistic wellness, and spiritual vitality.

University Core Values

  1. Wherever FPU graduates are present in the world they will be recognized for consistently demonstrating wise and effective ethical leadership through generous and compassionate service and professional excellence that embodies the kingdom of Christ on earth as expressed in the Confession of Faith* and the FPU Idea.
    1. Integrating competency in the arts, sciences, and professions,
    2. Serving in diverse local and global communities,
    3. Engaging communities of health and healing, and
    4. Peacemaking through reconciliation and social justice.
  2. As a reflective academic community the university will model and will be known for its core values and beliefs as expressed in the Fresno Pacific Idea and the university confession of faith.
    1. As a diverse and hospitable community engaged in service to church and society,
    2. An appealing, welcoming, and energetic Christian community,
    3. A supportive and joyful place to work, and
    4. Highly preferred by those seeking an organization and community where they can exercise and develop their particular gifts and commit their energies.

Healthy Diverse Community

  1. FPU students, staff, administration, faculty, and board will be characterized by racial, ethnic, socio-economic background, age, sex, abilities, and Christian faith diversity, and these persons will feel they belong and have access to full and equitable participation in university life. FPU will:
    1. Continue as an HSI with a graduation rate for Hispanic students at least equal to the average of all baccalaureate students,
    2. Students of diverse religious backgrounds will feel their beliefs are understood and respected,
    3. University life, structures, and organizations will embrace and value diversity, and
    4. Recognized as an exemplar of research for, and service to, Hispanic students, families, and communities.
  2. The university will be recognized for its integrated culture of holistic wellness and student development. FPU will support:
    1. Programs that promote student leadership, service, and character formation,
    2. Consistently highly competitive athletics teams,
    3. Expressions of creative and artistic excellence in the visual and performing arts, and
    4. Co-curricular opportunities for health, fitness, and personal growth for students and employees.

Mission Driven Program Development

  1. The university’s program and academic development focus will demonstrate an intentional emphasis on serving our region and meeting student needs through the development of professionally oriented academic programs that integrate within them the arts, sciences, and Christian faith.
  2. University programs will be delivered in multiple forms—traditional, hybrid/blended and online, etc.—to all populations, using the most effective and cost-efficient modality appropriate to the needs of the programs and students for education in a global world.
  3. FPU will offer quality online learning opportunities and will extend through all student populations and programs as appropriate to the disciplines.
    1. Every student has opportunity for access to online learning experiences,
    2. Online programs are offered in areas of FPU expertise in which there is a strategic educational niche that FPU can effectively meet, and
    3. Online degree programs are accessible to underserved student populations regionally, nationally, and internationally.
  4. FPU will be characterized by a global presence and an international/cross-cultural emphasis throughout its programs through:
    1. Study abroad in FPU developed sites unique to its character and mission,
    2. Other endorsed international study programs,
    3. Short-term study, performance, and service/mission,
    4. International students in academic and co-curricular programs, and
    5. Achievement of cross-cultural engagement in local, regional, and international settings.

Infrastructure and Internal Working Culture

  1. Tuition and other pricing levels will be competitive, affordable for students, reflective of the academic quality of the university, and sufficient for financial health.
  2. The University’s mix of programs, revenue, and donated resources will demonstrate wise proportionality in support of the mission, vision, values, and work of the community. Estimated populations will be:
    1. Traditional undergraduate population of 1250-1400,
      • Minimum 55% residential students,
    2. Degree completion population of 2000-2500,
    3. Graduate population of 1200-1300,
      • With an additional seminary population of 150-200, and
    4. Online students (undergraduate and graduate) of 3000-5000
  3. Grants, contributions, and other donated resources will indicate a culture of philanthropy. FPU will support:
    1. A comprehensive campaign sufficient to accomplish board-approved projects,
    2. Coordinated grant-management oversight,
    3. Board, employee, and alumni giving and engagement consistently in the upper half of the CCCU schools in California,
    4. Endowments sufficient to maintain board-approved faculty chairs, programs, scholarships, and facilities, and
    5. Close collaboration with the FPU Foundation.
  4. FPU physical and financial resources will symbolize and support the broad educational, professional preparation, and spiritual and life-forming goals of the university.
  5. The faculty, administrative leadership, staff, and board of the university will be known for academic and professional excellence and Christian character.
    1. Scholarly and organizational creativity, productivity, engagement, and collaboration,
    2. A consistent orientation for service to students, alumni, supporters, allied organizations, and each other,
    3. Ongoing development of working structures that facilitate achievement of university goals, and
    4. Resourcing and development of employees to achieve university goals.
  6. The operational work of the faculty, staff, and administration will be characterized by:
    1. Simplicity,
    2. Directness,
    3. Respect,
    4. Transparency,
    5. Accountability,
    6. Continuous improvement, and
    7. Collaboration.
